Smells Like Teen Spirit (or Worse)
![]()
Think your cat would like a fancy bed? Well, maybe. But in my experience, a store-bought sleep station is not the ticket. Noticing that my cat’s (and many cats’) favorite hobby is snoozing, I purchased a “Wonder Bed” for him for Christmas. This $40 deluxe model from Pet Smart warms with your pet’s body heat. Pretty cool, huh? I thought so. However, on being presented with his new bed, Bob sniffed it, turned up his little cat nose, and headed to the nearest dirty clothes pile for a nap.
In observing my cat’s bedding selections, I now notice that he prefers the smelly. Bob’s favorites are the bath mat, dirty gym clothes, damp towels, the laundry basket and the basement. What do all of these have in common? A musty smell. And aside from the basement, all of these things carry the aroma of people stink. It’s a well-known fact that cats like the smell of their owners — try lining your pet’s carrier with an old T-shirt next time you go to the vet; it will help comfort him or her. However, with my cat Bob, the more B.O.-reeking, the better!
